We suggest the following model resolution for union branches that want to affiliate:

Trades union councils are local groups of trade unionists, elected from trade union branches whose members live and/or work in the area. They promote solidarity in disputes and campaign to implement policies agreed at the annual trades council conference.

Camden Trades Council is active in supporting local trade unionists, for example Trades Council delegates have:

  • Organised regular street stalls promoting the importance of trade union membership, we encouraged support for the 2022-23 wave of strike action and collected signatures for a petition against the soon to be repealed Minimum Service Level Act
  • Written articles and letters for the Camden New Journal explaining the importance of trade unions and reasons behind trade union action
  • Attended local picket lines, demos and rallies
  • Organised local support for the successful “Save our Ticket Offices” campaign.

Trade unionists must come together to fight together if we are to win disputes over job cuts, threats to pay, terms and conditions, while also campaigning to push the Labour government both to fulfil the pledges in the “New Deal for Working People” and to reject another round of austerity for our public services and welfare state.

This branch therefore agrees to affiliate to Camden Trades Council at a cost of £ x.
