Public Meeting: What Next for Health & Safety? Thursday 20th September Bread & Roses, Clapham

What Next for Health and Safety?

Public MeetingThursday 20th September 7:30pm

at Bread & Roses Clapham.

Called by Battersea and Wandsworth TUC, London Hazards Centre, Battersea Crane Disaster Action Group, Construction Safety Campaign.

This meeting has been called because of the urgent need to co-ordinate a campaign to stop the government tearing up vital health and safety legislation. The follow up to the Löfstedt Review has so far resulted in a rushed consultation with the HSE Board proposing scrapping both the Tower Crane Register – which we campaigned for following a spate of deaths in London – and the Hard Hat Regs.

Now they are rushing through a “consultation” ending on 14th September which could result in even more legislation being watered down or abolished altogether including getting rid of the Approved Code of Practise that goes with the Management of Health and Safety Regulations. This would not be the end either: the HSE are consulting, ending on 28th October, about scrapping protection for millions of self-employed workers (that could mean anyone on a dodgy contract) and changing RIDDOR so they no longer even try to monitor health and safety illness.

We know that Cameron and his allies in the Association for the Mangling of Operatives are fighting hard to kill the albatross of safety culture. But people don’t want this: everyone is tremendously proud that for the first time the Olympics were built without any worker getting killed! We want more safety not less!

Please come to the meeting & make your voice heard! All welcome! A nice buffet will be provided.

RSVP please!
