EDL not welcome in Tower Hamlets – Don’t let racists divide us

Assemble 11am – Altab Ali Park, Whitechapel High Street, London E1.

Saturday 7th September

The fascist English Defence League (EDL) has announced plans to demonstrate in East London on Saturday 7th September.

They have attempted to march in Tower Hamlets three times before and each time, trade unions, Muslim, Christian, Jewish and other faiths, LGBT communities, local elected politicians and many more stood together and prevented the fascists from entering the borough.

Wherever the EDL goes attacks on Muslims and other communities occur. In June, a mosque and community centre in Muswell Hill was burnt to the ground and “EDL” was found painted on the walls. In July three mosques in the West Midlands were attacked, prior to an EDL mobilisation in Birmingham.

We want to show the EDL that they are not welcome in Tower Hamlets or any other part of London. We want a vibrant demonstration of multi- cultural East London.

The demonstration is called by Unite Against Fascism, and supported by United East End, the East London Mosque, the Muslim Council of Britain, and trade unions including the NUT, PCS, RMT and Unite.

We urge you all to join us there.
