Uniting workers and communities in the London Borough of Camden
A final protest will be held on Wednesday, 26th February at 12.00 noon outside Swiss Cottage Post Office on its last day as a Crown Post Office; the office will be franchised to WH Smith the following day, Thursday, 27th February.
Huw Davies, a Communication Workers’ Union Representative for Post Office counter staff in the Greater London area said:
“The London North Western Counter & Clerical C.W.U. Branch is asking all our supporters amongst the local residents and their elected representatives to attend this protest on Wednesday, 26th February.
We believe that the franchise proposals are not in the best interests of the local community and will provide an inferior service to the public, with inadequate facilities and no long-term guarantee of provision.
Yet again, the Post Office senior managers have entirely ignored the strongly held views of the local community they profess to serve.
It will be a very sad day indeed for Swiss Cottage and the Post Office staff: the 2 managers and 9 staff members, who have loyally served the community with a combined total of 185 years between them, now face the stark alternatives of either redeployment or leaving the Business on severance terms”.
