CAMDEN AGAINST AUSTERITY * DEMONSTRATE 20 OCTOBER*

Next Campaign meeting Thursday 16 August 7pm Camden Town Hall
*REPORT FROM 20 OCTOBER ORGANISING MEETING 19 JULY*
This report was sent by a PCS National Executive member from a local branch.
” The meeting was attended by approximately 20 people, from the local Consituencey Labour Party chair  to a representative from UK UNCUT . There were also delegates from the local Keep Our NHS public campaign, tenants associations, UNISON and RMT.
To help build the demo, UNISON have booked a train from Liverpool and Manchester and it was estimated that it could attract over 1 million people. The aim is to build a demonstration much wider than the trade union movement and that it has to include students, pensioners, disability groups etc.
It was recognised that the TUC will use the demo as part of the build up to a general election campaign for Ed Miliband and why an atmosphere had to be developed now to turn the demonstration into the springboard for future action.

It was agreed that an open letter will be sent to Camden New Journal (CNJ) signed by various local campaigning groups to build for the 20th and the it was agreed to ask councillors to sign the statement supporting the demonstration and to draft a motion to put to the Council.

It was agreed to set up a public meeting at the end of September and a feeder march from Camden to the demo will be organised. In order to build for the public meeting and the demo, leafleting, organising meetings and other campaigning initiatives will be discussed at the next meeting which is on the 16th August.

All in all it was a very good meeting a bit of politics, a bit of organisation and importantly, it finished on time.”
