Unemployment in SERTUC: ONS statistics

· East of England: up by 9,000 to 146,000 people (4.7%)

· London: up by 22,000 to 307,000 people (6.7%)

· South East: up by 11,000 to 207,000 people (4.5%)

· The figures are for the quarter to June

· Nationally unemployment rose to 1.85 million

· 31 million are in work nationally, 63,000 fewer than the previous three months

· Regional unemployment: NE 8.1%, NW 6%, Yorkshire & The Humber 6.5%, East Midlands 4.7%, West Midlands 6%, SW 4.4%, Wales 5.9%, Scotland 5.6%, Northern Ireland 6.5%
